What can I do about my taxes? Being wrongfully claimed as a dependant?
You are considered away from home as a temporary absence. You have to include the value of the home they provide, utilities, food, etc of your primary home. The law does not say they must support you it says they can claim you if you do not support yourself more than 50%. If you want to claim yourself you will need to mail in your return and include proof of why you think you are not a dependent. They will ask your parents to prove you are a dependent. If you win your parents will have to return the money with penalties and interest.
