Everytime there is a storm in colorado, the sky turns orange, and it's not sunset, or city lights.?

why is this? and the dummies that say it is city lights or sunset, you are wrong, as this is colorado, we dont have enough city lights to even light up denver. big humongous snowstorm outside right now, about 11 pm, and the sky is orange and sorta reddish. big winds. and the sunset about 6 hours ago. i heard that it was the oranger the sky, the worse the storm, is this true? any scientific explanation?
